Petr Cech recently suffered a defeat against his former club after Arsenal lost 1-0 against Chelsea at the Emirates stadium. However, the Czech Republic goalkeeper was pictured lifting up his demoralised teammates after the defeat.
This gesture has received a lot of support in the football world with former Arsenal legend Ian Wright praising the goalkeeper for utilising his experience and lifting his teammates. Cech has been one of the best signings made by Arsenal in recent times. Despite his best efforts, the team was unable to get a win against Chelsea.
The 33-year-old has immense experience of winning major titles at Chelsea. He has already contributed a lot of Arsenal’s rise up the table. Wright believes that the goalkeeper is starting to become one of the best signings for the club in recent years. Arsenal did their best against the blues, but came up short once again.
Manager Arsene Wenger, though, was disappointed with the way the referee reduced his team to 10 men by giving a straight red card to Per Mertesacker. For fans who had spent a lot of money on tickets to get into the game (both through arsenal.com and sites such as Livefootballtickets), this completely changed the fixture. This was the second time this season Arsenal were a man down against Chelsea. Santi Cazorla was sent off in the reverse fixture between the two teams.
Despite this setback, Arsenal continue to be favourites for the league title with Leicester City and Manchester City being the other challengers. “You’ve seen Koscielny crouched over. Obviously Arsenal lost the game, he was down and he looked like he had just lost the league at the end of the season. They haven’t lost the league. What is good about someone like Petr Cech who has been in the situation, he was picking them up. It isn’t all over. You can’t show that kind of demeanour. Arsenal need to string a couple of wins together pretty quickly,” said Wright.
