Manchester United have the highest net spend on transfers since the 2017/18 season after the signing of England international Jadon Sancho wasannounced on Friday.
Sancho underwent his medical at Manchester United last week and only a minor problem with his agent delayed the official announcement of his transfer to the club until it was made on Friday. He becomes the second summer signing at Manchester United after experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton. England international Heaton re-signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer after his contract with Aston Villa ended this summer.
The Sancho deal took Manchester United further clear of Manchester City as the Premier League team with the biggest negative spend in the last four years according to Transfermarkt. Manchester United have spent £616.21m on transfers and received £158.61m in player sales for a net spend of £457.60m. Only the three newly promoted Premier League teams namely Brentford, Watford and Norwich City have a positive net spend from the 20 teams in the English top flight this season.
Premier League champions Manchester City are yet to make any major signing this summer but they still have the second most negative net spend ahead of Aston Villa and Arsenal. The Citizens have a negative net spend of £366.31m ahead of Aston Villa in third place with £247.86m in negative net spend and Arsenal in fourth place with £238.68m in negative net spend.
Merseyside giants Everton are in fifth place with a negative net spend of £233.82m, while Brighton and Hove Albion complete the top six teams with £212.35m.
