Three-time European champions Manchester United are reportedly open to the loan exit of French attacker Anthony Martial before the current transfer window runs out. This is via the report from the stables of English publication Manchester Evening News (MEN) which stated that the Red Devils are willing to let Martial leave on loan provided interested clubs will take care of his weekly salary. In addition, Manchester United also want a £6m loan fee for him.
French international Martial was battling veteran Uruguayan striker EdinsonCavani for the sole central striker role in the starting XI. Since the arrival of Ronaldo last summer, both Cavani and Martial have been relegated to the bench. Cavani is seen as the second choice centre forward at Manchester United behind Ronaldo and ahead of Martial who’s now the third choice. Martial is more of a versatile forward than Cavani as he can play on either of the wings. The Frenchman is fourth choice on the wings behind the English trio of Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
Newcastle United and Sevilla have both been linked with a move for Martial in recent weeks but the interest seems to have cooled especially from the Magpies. The Eddie Howe-led team needed a striker after the long-term injury to first choice Callum Wilson and they have opted for New Zealand international Chris Wood ahead of Martial and other striker transfer targets. The Magpies paid the £25m release clause in his contract at Burnley to secure his signing.
